A Journey Through Bourbon History
Step into the storied past of Kentucky Bourbon’s origin and its evolution into the globally-renowned spirit it is today!
Stroll through three centuries of architecture as you discover the impact five generations of Bullitt family legal scholars had in shaping both our Commonwealth and Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is the family that helped to define and defend Bourbon with law and lawsuits, and even in consultation with the President of the United States.
This is the story of the “Why” behind the “Rules of Bourbon” that you hear at every distillery tour in Kentucky and the almost-forgotten figures who codified those rules into law to protect the good name of America’s only native spirit.
The Oxmoor Bourbon Company experience is not a distillery tour, nor is it focused on any particular brand. This is a walk through Bourbon history and an opportunity to learn about the work that defined and defended both the famous beverage we know today. You can’t truly understand what Bourbon is until you realize how it came to be.
Tours will take you on a journey through three centuries of history that defined Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, beginning with the original section of the family home built in 1791.
You will then travel to the home’s first addition dating back to 1829, a section that would become the family’s primary residence for most of the next century. Guests will sample a special whiskey Bourbon punch cocktail the family may have served visitors at the time.
The tour concludes with the final section of the home completed in 1928 and features one of the most historically inspiring rooms in all of Kentucky, the Bullitt family’s astounding 10,000 book library.
